Kooky albums to be reissued on vinyl (finally)

It's a big welcome back to Kooky Records who have recently announced via durutti.co.uk that they will be releasing vinyl records of Kooky product mostly previously only available on CD over the next twelve months. These albums will be produced jointly by Kooky, durutti.co.uk and Cargo Records.

The planned albums are:

• Tempus Fugit
• Sunlight to Blue... Blue to Blackness
• Chronicle XL
• A 7" Single (details tbc)
• A Paean to Wilson

All vinyl will be 180gm with anti-static inner sleeves. Download codes are not planned but bonus CDs may be included.

A limited amount of each pressing will be on coloured vinyl. The limited runs will be at independent record shops.

These won't be Record Store Day releases and all profits from digital and physical sales will go to the band.

Chronicle XL Kooky presale sold out

The internet presale of the long-awaited new album 'Chronicle XL' has sold out over at Kooky Records. A total of 500 copies were sold in two waves (180 first, followed by 320).

Many thanks to everyone who has pre-ordered their copy and, if you didn't get one, rest assured that there will be plenty on sale via your favourite shop when it is fully released in early June.

Chronicle XL update via Kooky

As is traditional in these circumstances, it's over to Phil Kooky for an important announcement about Chronicle XL, reproduced here in full:

"Further to recent posts, I have now made arrangements for an additional amount of copies of Chronicle XL by The Durutti Column to be available not only by mail order but also in the stores.

In response to the demand, 320 LIMITED RUN COPIES WILL BE AVAILABLE ONLINE TO BUY AT 7.00PM BST, ON SATURDAY 10 MAY 2014.

Whilst this is a very important and exclusive release it need not exclude anyone who wants a copy. Limited versions will be available at Kooky Mail Order via the Buy it Now with Paypal button and standard ones at your local record store in July once it is on general release. We want to support the artist by selling as many as possible.

In response to the high demand, it will now be an initial run of 2000 copies in total. 500 or so of these will have the extra maps and badges mentioned in previous posts and will comprise those sold direct via the Kooky Shop. The remaining 1500 or so will make up the standard edition and will have one of six maps and no badges. The certificate, booklet and all other material will appear in all copies.

All limited copies will only be available through Kooky and they will be posted at the end of May/early June. They will ALL go out together regardless of whether you ordered one last week or order in the future. The main release date has been bought forward and will now be the week commencing 7 July 2014.

I would like to reassure everyone that you should not worry if you can't buy one here via the Kooky website as your shop/store will stock it. So, please spread the word and remember it is now in larger quantities and there should be enough to go around.

A few comments regarding ordering:

1) If you have already ordered one, please do not order another. I WILL refund duplicates. Please respectfully ask any friends to buy their own, otherwise you are taking someone else's chance to get one. I check addresses and names without issuing a warrant.

2) Should you want a refund because you're unhappy with the increase in the pressing just contact me and it will be given - no questions asked.

3) Read previous posts, a lot of information has been circulated.

4) Please remember that because I will probably run out it does not mean you cannot buy one from your store. I cannot sell them all as it's not fair on the shops and stores who support the artist too.

Chronicle LX:XL delayed

Here is an announcement from our friends at Kooky Records:

"The Durutti Column album 'Chronicle' is unfortunately delayed.

This is mainly down to the production costs involved and delivery schedule meant that we were unlikely to get it ready in time and/or provide an album at a price we would be happy with.

The band, label Kooky and distributor Cargo are very sorry and disappointed that it will not form part of the Record Store Day series of releases for 2014.

However...

It will be available soon and more details to be announced once they are available."

Kooky re-releases update

Phil Kooky at Kooky Records has some good news about the forthcoming renewed availability of A Paean To Wilson and Vini Reilly which have been out of print for some.

The albums will be re-released in jewel cases as the original digi-packs have sold out. This will make them a lot cheaper. More news when we have it but these albums will go on sale via the Kooky Shop and also via this site.

Chronicle LXXL update

Phil Kooky Cleaver has posted an update on the Chronicle project over at Kooky Records:

"This project has been delayed and we now anticipate that it will be out early 2014.

The package is still to be a very high quality limited product which will refer to previous releases over the artists career.

This is a two disc set with extras available via a download card and link.

This release and packaging will be strictly limited to 1000 copies.

More details on how to pre-order will be available soon.

Prototypes have been made and images will be uploaded in due course."

The Durutti Column Shop

Just a quick announcement about the pricing of items in the Shop (brought to you by those lovely people at Kooky Records). Due to rising postage costs, particularly when sending to far flung corners of the world, we have reluctantly had to change our pricing structure. This means no more Worldwide flat shipping rate but rather a new 3-tier (UK, Europe and Rest of the World) system.

One bonus of the recent revamp was the realisation that copies of Tempus Fugit (2004) are still available in limited quantities. First come, first served.

A Paean To Wilson 2LP sold out

Please note the double vinyl edition of A Paean To Wilson is now sold out.

A Paean To Wilson double vinyl details

Kooky Records has confirmed details of the 180 gram double vinyl edition of A Paean To Wilson which is its Record Store Day release for 2013.

Phil Kooky says:

"It is pressed on 2 x 180gram vinyl discs, remastered and gently coaxed since the CD release in 2009.
The main alteration is the omission of the 'hidden track wind noise' at the end of the album; to bring timings in within the limits of four sides!

Artwork has been restructured by Trevor Johnson and the album also contains the following:

a) A free download code with every copy.
b) A copy of the original folded poster programme from the MIF show.
c) A postcard - using the cover image of Tony Wilson and Vini sat at the piano, with information on the flip side.

Both these physical artefacts ( b) and c) ) will be packed in a black envelope foil block stamped and inserted in the album before shrink wrapping.

Pressing :- There are exactly 497 copies one run only
Availability :- Released 20th April 2013 for Record Store Day*

* Please note - This means that it will only be sold through record shops primarily to support our independent retailers.

It will retail at £26.00.

UPDATE: However... Should there be any remaining stock, it will be sold here at Kooky and I will be putting the relevant details here."

A Paean To Wilson was commissioned by and first performed at the 2009 Manchester International Festival.

A Record Store Day Paean To Wilson

Kooky Records has announced that the critically acclaimed album A Paean to Wilson is to be given a special limited vinyl release to coincide with Record Store Day in spring 2013.

This will be a double vinyl release which will include some artefacts from its Manchester International Festival launch in July 2009.

Chronicle

The full release of the partly-autobiographical album 'Chronicle' which was previewed live in 2011 and issued in limited quantities is to be officially released by Kooky Records in 2013. It will be available in special packaging containing photographs taken by Vini.

The Durutti Column Presents Chronicle

The long-awaited biographical album Chronicle will be debuted live at next week's shows in York and Manchester.

The album itself contains fourteen tracks and comes with a booklet of Vini Reilly's photographs. The sleeve design is by Trevor Johnson and Haider Mundi who have designed other recent releases including A Paean To Wilson.

The album will initially be sold exclusively at the Bridgewater Hall as a special pre-release CD available with a ticket at the show - more details to follow soon.

Vini Reilly re-release pre-sale now closed

Please note that the Internet pre-sale of the Kooky Records re-release of the seminal Durutti Column album Vini Reilly is now closed.

The 2CD set comprising a the original album re-mastered by Keir Stewart and a nine-track bonus disc of unheard studio out-takes will now go to a full formal release in April 2011.

The new album by The Durutti Column 'A Paean To Wilson' is officially released 24 January 2010 and is available now for 15.00 GBP (including Worldwide P+P) via the Kooky Buy it Now button.

The album is also be on sale via iTunes [UK] and the next opportunity to buy it in person will be at the Leicester Square Theatre in London this Sunday 31 January 2010. Tickets are still available via Ticketline and by calling the Box Office on 0844 847 2475.

Last Sunday's "Movement of the 24th January" gig at the Lowry in Salford was a great success. Stephen Dalton, in The Times, said:

"The late Anthony Wilson, Factory Records founder and notorious Mancunian motormouth, would have turned 60 next month. The virtuoso guitarist Vini Reilly paid understated homage to his old friend, manager and label boss in Salford with a rare live show to launch his latest album, A Paean to Wilson.

A gaunt and sinewy 56-year-old with an unruly orange-tinted mullet hairdo, Reilly could pass for a consumptive cousin of Ronnie Wood. Although portrayed as a fragile and depressive character, he is ironically one of the last original Factory insiders still standing after three decades of untimely deaths and career burn-outs."
