A Paean To Wilson Limited Edition 3LP coloured vinyl

 

A Paean to Wilson is still arguably Vini Reilly and The Durutti Column's most important and consistent piece of work since the demise of the original and seminal Factory Records in the early nineties. This special triple coloured vinyl edition on the DURUTTI label via Cargo (as trailed back in 2020) combines the original 2009 twelve-track album with the six 'Heaven Sent' tracks. The latter first appeared in 2005 via Wilson's project F4 Records which was so-called by virtue of being the fourth iteration of Factory Records. Originally this was a download-only release, called Heaven Sent (It Was Called Digital, It Was Heaven Sent) and the tracks are presented on vinyl for the first time. 

A Paean to Wilson was commissioned for the Manchester International Festival where it was premiered in July 2009. Vin had already composed pieces for Tony to listen to whilst he was ill in hospital and it was from here that the project developed. 

Ever critical of Vini's voice, but ever a fierce champion of his talent, the late Tony Wilson would surely appreciate this instrumental tribute by The Durutti Column. 

Dave Simpson, writing for The Guardian on the occasion of the live premiere of A Paean To Wilson at the Manchester International Festival in 2009 called it "a very personal, emotional and often warmly funny musical tribute" in which "Reilly's plangent guitar work showed grief's emotional spectrum, from sadness to overdriven anger." 

This release coincides with the much-delayed new Paul Morley biography 'Manchester with Love: The Life and Opinions of Tony Wilson'.

Free From All The Chaos/Number Three limited edition clear vinyl single

The first stand-alone vinyl single to be released by The Durutti Column this century will be released on 4 August 2020 (Vini Reilly's birthday).

'Free From All The Chaos', was originally on the CD release 'Chronicle' and is presented with the unreleased track 'Number Three', from the same sessions. This release also features the voice of singer/songwriter Caoilfhionn Rose, a collaborator with the band over the past five years.

This single is a limited edition of 750 copies on crystal clear vinyl and comes in a sleeve designed by Trevor Johnson.

Watch this space for a series of releases originally on the Kooky imprint which will be re-issued for the first time on vinyl, including the very limited Chronicle, which was commissioned from Vini Reilly as an autobiographical project concluding with a series of live shows. It will be released for the first time in vinyl format later this year.

Kooky albums to be reissued on vinyl (finally)

It's a big welcome back to Kooky Records who have recently announced via durutti.co.uk that they will be releasing vinyl records of Kooky product mostly previously only available on CD over the next twelve months. These albums will be produced jointly by Kooky, durutti.co.uk and Cargo Records.

The planned albums are:

• A 7" Single (details tbc)
• A Paean to Wilson

All vinyl will be 180gm with anti-static inner sleeves. Download codes are not planned but bonus CDs may be included.

A limited amount of each pressing will be on coloured vinyl. The limited runs will be at independent record shops.

These won't be Record Store Day releases and all profits from digital and physical sales will go to the band.

Amigos em Portugal / Live at The Venue [DURUTTI]

Amigos em Portugal [LOTTA001] and Live at The Venue [LOTTA002] by The Durutti Column are available to buy now individually or in a bundle via durutti.co.uk on 180 gram vinyl with bonus reference compact disc. It's a limited edition of 500 copies per release. Once they're gone, they're gone.

These are the first releases on the new DURUTTI imprint with more in the pipeline.

Both releases have been digitally remastered with different masters being used for the vinyl and for the compact disc for optimum sound quality. Excellent new artwork inspired by the original releases is by Trevor Johnson and Sian Ford.
