The Durutti Column are Renascent

'Renascent', the new album by The Durutti Column, is released on Friday 31 July 2026. The album will be available across a number of formats including digital, CD (both with the bonus track 'All They See is Fire') and transparent yellow vinyl. There will also be a limited edition vinyl featuring alternative artwork, pressed on bottle green vinyl and featuring an oversized booklet. The official Durutti Column store will host some very limited editions including a cassette, and a very special edition slipcase version of the album (limited to 1,000 copies worldwide) with alternative artwork, heavyweight black vinyl, a DVD with unique visualisers for every track, 4 art prints and a folded poster. Rough Trade have their own exclusive edition of the album (limited to 500 copies), a split purple / green vinyl version, with a bonus flexi-disc of 'All They See is Fire'.

The album marks the first collection of new material since 2010's A Paean to Wilson. It also signals a symbolic return to origins, carrying a Factory Too catalogue number in collaboration with Oli Wilson, continuing the legacy of Factory Records. Visually, Renascent reunites the band with original Factory design collaborators, Mark Holt and Hamish Muir of 8vo, whose artwork mirrors the music's balance of modernist precision and romantic warmth through rich, sensuous colour.

Intricate yet unflashy, melancholic yet quietly ecstatic, The Durutti Column have always sounded​indelibly, like themselves. Across five decades they have moved fluidly between indie chamber music, modern classical suites, sampledelia, dance experimentation, and flamenco-tinged pop, while remaining unmistakably cornerstone by Vini Reilly's delicate, expressive guitar voice. Now, 46 years after their debut and 16 after their last album, The Durutti Column (a trio of Vini with longstanding drummer / percussionist Bruce Mitchell and producer / instrumentalist Keir Stewart) return with Renascent, a new album that both honours their past and reaffirms their enduring creative vitality.

The Return of The Durutti Column 45th Anniversary Edition

This year marks 45 years since the release of The Durutti Column’s landmark album The Return Of The Durutti Column. To celebrate, London Records announces a very special reissue of the seminal Manchester band’s 1980 debut, set for release on 28 November 2025 and available for pre-order now at the official Durutti Column online store.

The Return Of The Durutti Column remains one of Factory's most enduring and important works: fragile, otherworldly, and quietly radical. Produced by Martin Hannett, it showcased Vini Reilly’s distinctive, delicate guitar work against Hannett’s ambient textures, post-punk reverb and glacial electronics.

The 45th Anniversary Edition is available in several formats:

The Deluxe Sandpaper LP, replicating the rare first pressing and limited to 500 numbered copies worldwide. Each sleeve has been spray-painted by hand with the original catalogue number, FACT 14. This edition includes a unique printed inner sleeve featuring an essay by Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie, housed inside a protective outer cover.

The Standard Edition LP, replicating the second pressing, commonly known as the ‘Dufy’ sleeve (after a featured triptych of images by French painter Jean Dufy), with the outer sleeve printed on the same textured card as the 1980 version. The inner sleeve features an essay by Durutti Column/Factory Records expert James Nice. Rough Trade will stock a unique pressing of this edition as part of their Essentials range, pressed on black-and-white marbled vinyl and limited to 500 copies (with bonus sandpaper postcard) from here.

All vinyl editions have been remastered from the original source tapes, recently rediscovered in a Stockport warehouse, and cut at half-speed for maximum audio fidelity. The tracklisting includes the original album plus 'Untitled' (featured on later iterations), alongside two further tracks: 'Lips That Would Kiss' and 'Madeleine', both originally issued on Factory Records’ Belgian sister label Factory Benelux in autumn 1980.

The Expanded Hardback Book Edition is a 2CD, 38-track collection housed in a tall storybook format with a 48-page booklet. Alongside essays from James Nice and Bobby Gillespie, this edition also includes a new piece by Mojo journalist Ian Harrison. The expanded audio features the vinyl tracklisting plus material from the 1980 bonus flexidisc Testcard, first recordings, studio and home demos, live performances, and several previously unreleased tracks. The artwork reflects the special 1985 boxed cassette edition (part of Factory’s series alongside releases from Joy Division, New Order and A Certain Ratio) and is printed on authentically sourced paper stock.

The first 500 orders from the official store will receive an exclusive bonus CD, Lost Songs and Sketches, featuring early live recordings and a rare 1981 audio interview with Vini Reilly.

Time Was GIGANTIC... When we were kids

... and we're back.

London Records have dug into the Factory Records archive to re-issue The Durutti Column's 'Time Was GIGANTIC... When we were kids'. Originally released in 1998, these 25-year anniversary editions are available to pre-order on CD and for the first time on double vinyl, with release set for 30 June 2023.

These new additions are remastered and expanded with five rare bonus tracks, as well as new liner notes from James Nice and expanded artwork by Hamish Muir and Mark Holt of 8vo.

Also available in The Durutti Column’s online store is an exclusive, limited, hand-numbered reproduction of the poster promoting The Durutti Column’s performance at Manchester Cathedral for In The City, 24 September 1998.
