The first track In Memory of Anthony is inspired by Vini Reilly's career-long friendship Tony Wilson, who died in August 2007. Vini notes that "He always encouraged me to follow my instincts. And that's still how I work. All the new songs are a very true reflection of my life and that's all I want any album to be."
Elsewhere, For Bruce pays instrumental tribute to the gonzo drum-master himself, Bruce Mitchell. Vini acknowledges that the album could not have been made without Bruce, Keir Stewart and Laurie Laptop: "Without all of them I don't know how I would be able to carry on, on any level. And as musicians there's no one else I would rather work with."
Another key collaboration on the album is the one with Vini's girlfriend Poppy Morgan which resulted in the co-written track Wild Beast Tamed and others.
Poppy also partly inspired the title of the album, a romantic (and economically accurate) nod to Gabriel García Márquez's novel, Love In The Time Of Cholera.
